Mnemonics for the け (ke), は (ha) and ほ (ho) Characters

In this section we will analyse the け (ke), は (ha) and ほ (ho) characters.

In all of these characters, imagine that the left part of the character represents a person standing on their head, with their feet up in the air. You can visualise the head as its pointed to the right slightly. The right part of the character represents another person in different shapes and forms, that is watching the person on the left stand on their head.

け (ke), は (ha), ほ (ho)

In the first character, け (ke), we can see the person on the right (who has an asian accent), laughing, going ‘kekeke’ at the person on the left who is standing on their head. Think ‘keke’, which is a light form of laughter.

With the second character, は (ha), the person on the right is so amazed at how long the person on the left is still standing on their head! The person on the right has decided to sit down, crossing their legs (you can see the legs being crossed at the bottom). The person on the right has erupted into a more heavy form of laughter now, going ‘hahahaha!’, as he cannot believe the person on the left is still standing on their head after all this time!

With the third character, ほ (ho), the person on the left hasn’t moved an inch, and is still standing on their head! The person on the right has found the whole thing so incredibly funny, that they’ve decided to join in on the fun! They’ve fetched a hat, and returning to their former sitting position, have placed the hat on their head! Now the person is laughing at both themselves and the person standing on their head! The laughter is now starting to hurt the stomach, as the person on the right is laughing so heavily now, going ‘hohoho!.
